Yep, that’s me below. Sweaty, going bald, in a donut-designed rashguard, and absolutely sweating my behind off while doing jiu-jitsu.
Four years ago when we moved to here, one of the first things I did was sign up at a jiu-jitsu gym. About a year before our family moved, me (at age 41), Gabe (5), and Alina (3) had started a new hobby during Covid. Jiu-jitsu.
I knew it was something we wanted to stick with, so we found the nearest gym and jumped in. What I didn’t realize at the time was that 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu Vegas, with locations in Henderson and mid-city Las Vegas, is one of the premier academies in the country. Their children’s program is especially next-level. For example, next year at ADCC (basically the Super Bowl of jiu-jitsu), our kids program will have 4 of the top 32 kids in the world competing. That still blows my mind.
And I definitely didn’t know this gym would end up becoming the epicenter of our social circle. Between the adult classes and the kids classes, we’ve made some incredible connections, found like-minded families (some even go to my wife’s school), and built friendships that feel like the real, lifelong kind.
Whether it’s 10th Planet in Henderson (10thplanetlasvegas.com), Hybrid Jiu-Jitsu in Summerlin (hybridjiujitsulv.com), or any of the dozens of other schools across the city, I can’t recommend enough getting you and your kids into a class. It’s been one of the absolute best things we’ve done as a family.

🌤️ Las Vegas in for a dry December
The Gist: After a record wet November, Las Vegas is expected to stay warm and dry for much of December. The National Weather Service says highs will run 10 to 15 degrees above normal, landing in the low 70s with mild overnight lows. A ridge of high pressure off Southern California is keeping storm systems away. If no rain falls this month, it would mark only the seventh rainless December since 1937.
Why It Matters: The extended dry spell shapes outdoor plans and highlights how unusual this winter pattern is. Feels like classic desert weather returning just in time for the holidays.
